Personal Loan Calculator - Payment and Interest Cost

Separate the Loan Payment from Fees and Offer Terms

For a fixed installment loan, the entered principal, periodic rate and number of payments determine the modeled payment schedule. Shortening the term generally raises the required payment while reducing the time during which interest accrues.

Origination fees, optional products, late charges and lender-specific APR calculations may not be part of the basic amortization result. Compare the calculator output with the disclosure for the actual offer before choosing between lenders.

A personal-loan quote often contains more than an interest rate. Origination fees can reduce the cash you actually receive or increase the effective borrowing cost, and lender APR disclosures may incorporate fees differently from a simple amortization calculation. Use the calculator to understand the payment mechanics, then compare the result with the lender's disclosure and the amount that will actually be deposited. That prevents a seemingly cheap rate from hiding a meaningful upfront charge.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is total paid higher than the amount borrowed?

The difference is primarily modeled interest, plus any fees you separately include. Interest is the cost of carrying the outstanding balance over time.

Does this calculator decide whether I qualify?

No. Approval, offered rate and loan amount depend on the lender's underwriting and your application details.

Why should I look at the amount received as well as the loan amount?

Some loans deduct an origination fee from the proceeds. You may owe payments on the full principal even though the cash delivered to you is smaller.
